Ribamontán al Mar is paradise for surfers as it has some of the most beautiful beaches of the North Coast of Spain. Somo is the main destination and the most populated town in Ribamontán al Mar, which has another six villages: its capital town, Carriazo,plus Castanedo, Galizano, Langre, Loredo and Suesa. Besides surf in its beaches, amongst other water sports, the area offers some other activities such as hiking, mountain biking and horse riding.

You may as well take the beautiful journey on the boats which connect El Puntal beach and Somo with the capital city of Cantabria, Santander. The Northern Route of ‘el Camino de Santiago’crosses two of its villages, Galizano and Somo, from where you can board a boat to Santander. This route was used by thousands of pilgrims since the Late Middle Ages. Ribamontán al Mar is known as well as the ‘Village of Ceramics’ for it was home to numerous master stonemasons working for many of the civil and religious projects carried away by the Spanish Crown since the Fifteenth Century; a labour still kept alive by some small artisan centres.
