The Bay of Santander is one of the most beautiful bays in the world, and the best thing is that not only the people from Santander say it, which would be understandable, but also the experts who had chosen it to be part of the Club of the Most Beautiful Bays of the World, an international association that in Spain only the Cantabrian inlet and the bay of Roses on the Costa Brava (Catalonia) have the honor of belonging to. Not everyone can be a member of a club that only has 38 members worldwide, as it is necessary to comply with certain requirements, such as being subject to protection measures, having a fauna and flora of interest as well as remarkable and attractive natural spaces, being known and appreciated locally and nationally, being emblematic for the local population and having a certain economic potential.

There is no doubt, the incredible view obtained when entering the bay have contributed to this distinction

In fact, its access is preceded by the El Sardinero inlet, where the island of Mouro is located, while the access to the interior of the bay is achieved through a sea pass between the Peninsula de la Magdalena (where the Magdalena’s palace is located) and the beach El Puntal.

From the Dock by Paseo de Pereda in the capital, boats depart every 15 minutes to Pedreña, the beaches of Somo and El Puntal, as well as to the beaches of La Magdalena, El Sardinero and the Cabo Mayor lighthouse.

There are almost two kilometers of fine sand on the beaches of Segunda, Primera, Concha and Camello.

Next to them there is a promenade with views of the Casino, the gardens of the Jardines de Piquío and the Park of Mataleñas, and ending at the lighthouse. Throughout this tour you can find numerous establishments where you can stop for a snack, with dining rooms and terraces worthy of film, such as the La Concha resort, where you can eat while watching the endless blue sea.

The origin of El Sardinero goes back to the late nineteenth century, with the bourgeois fashion of wave baths.

The most unique building is the Gran Hotel (currently Hotel Sardinero) and the Gran Casino, which imitates the one in Monte Carlo that was inaugurated in 1916. In addition, the Hotel Real, also from that year, and Casa Pardo, from 1915-1918, stand out.
