Severiano Ballesteros (1957-2011), was possibly one of the Spanish sportsmen who had greater renown and fame, not only in Spain but also worldwide. His charisma, professionalism, and above all, simplicity, made him get the affection of all the fans, as well as an aroused interest in a discipline that was a minority in Spain, and which thanks to him managed to popularize and reach levels of recognition and dissemination never seen before. He was born in the Cantabrian town of Pedreña, and his interest in extending the practice of this sport led him to participate since 1982 in the design of golf courses with businessman Gonzalo Lavín.

He won 93 titles all over the world, 50 of them in the European Tour, and won five Majors

In August of 2017, his hometown paid tribute to him with the installation of a sculpture in the park of La Barquería made by the sculptor Salvador García. This work reflects the moment in which Seve won in Saint.
