If you are someone who, just thinking about parking, makes you replan the trip, appark.me is for you.
With the slogan Park, Move, Live this Cantabrian startup lets us feel the freedom of travel without the stressful “parking factor”. In the mobile apps market there are a few programs designed to find a parking space, based on geolocation. Something that goes a long way to reduce the inconvenience of private-car driving in the urban centre of large cities. Although practically all of them offer alternatives between the different car parks or areas regulated by city councils, you aren’t always going to find the car park closest to where you want to go.
The Cantabrian company appark.me provides the solution by making use of the under exploited parking spaces found at shopping centres, underground parking, hotels, etc.
In this way, for the hotel sector, the business model based on a collaborative economy (win-win), represents an opportunity to take advantage of its free parking spaces, amortizing a percentage of that unoccupied room. On the other hand, all the flow of information and data provided by the application in the management of that parking space, are key for the Revenue Management of the establishment when adjusting prices in a one to one strategy or in the microsegmentation of the client and in the decision making process, to achieve the best results.
The INE (National Institute of Statistics) published the latest data update (Nov 22 2019) for the hotel sector in Spain, in terms of overnight stays, average stay and occupation. Hotels in Spain registered a 2% drop compared to the same month of 2018. When we focus on Spanish travellers, the figure worsens to -5.6% for the same month of the previous year. The average stay also decreased (-3.42% and -3.11% nights per traveller) and the occupation was 66.2% in October.
Do you know how much time you lose looking for a parking spot? And what’s the cost?
For the appark.me user, the advantage isn’t just the tranquility of knowing that there’s a space linked to the registration number of the vehicle waiting for you.
According to a study by a well-known environmental organization, the time spent by a driver behind the wheel of his car, going round, looking for parking is estimated at around 30% of the total journey time, an average of between 15 and 30 minutes. If we account for the annual expense of parking only occasionally in the centre of Madrid or Barcelona, it rises to 634 euros on average.
Parking with appark.me is 15%-20% cheaper than the cheapest parking system you can find near your destination. In addition, 30% of CO2 emissions are produced by traffic during that search. By using this Eco-responsible App, you not only save time and money, but you’re also reducing the greenhouse gases.
The commitment of appark.me with the environment, goes one step further, being essentially a circular economy concept (“reduce”, “recycle”, “reuse”) adding value to Hotels by providing charging spots for their customers’ electric vehicles as well as for Appark.me users”
The startup appark.me was founded in 2017 by Alfonso Tomé and José María Martín-Abad. An ambitious project that today has a market valuation of more than one million euros, with great international potential, is on its way to becoming a world leader in the new parking and sustainable mobility consulting sector.
The company has had the financial support of Sodercan (Society for Regional Development of Cantabria) through the “Startup Capital Cantabria” program.
In 2018, it made a qualitative leap when the president of an important investment bank committed personally to the project. The latest boost to its social capital has been the interest of a former general director of one of the most relevant business groups in Cantabria. All this has placed appark.me as one of the few projects, born in Cantabria, to be funded by the National Innovation Company (ENISA).
At present, big names in the hotel sector, such as NH, Barceló, Meliá, and Silken, are among their clients. Outside the tourism sector, their reputation as strategic intelligent mobility consultants has earned them a contract with BASF Spain in Tarragona, for the logistic management of internal mobility and access at the biggest of their chemical plants as a priority, given their participation in the quality program, promoted by the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Tourism of the Government of Spain, ¨12 Industry Challenges 4.0¨
As a complement to its public launch, next year 2020, appark.me will subsidise the installation of its system into 100 hotels in Spain, an investment of over one million euros. For this, an hotel need only have a minimum of five parking spaces and be in an area with a population of more than 10,000 to be included in the system. The proposals will be collected through the website www.appark .me, edited for this campaign that takes advantage of the framework offered by Fitur 2020.
